I
always knew my destiny was to be an artist. I was fortunate to have parents who
were also talented and creative, and they encouraged my sisters and me to pursue
the art world. My early years as an illustrator taught me that the rules of color,
value, and composition always apply to a subject or style of painting. As a medium,
watercolor captured my heart more than ten years ago, and I never looked back.
I have experimented with other mediums, but watercolor still continues to facinate
and surprise me. Sometimes I opt to control it, knowing the outcome, and at other
times I let it control the direction of the painting. I can allow it to be loose
and free, or tighten it up and let it have a hard edge. It is a medium that allows
the spirit of the painting to thrive...be it transparent or opaque. What thrills
me most with every painting is watching the development and transformation that
take place.
